The veteran SEABL centre picks up his first POTW award for season 2007 after helping his team to a one-point away win against Albury/Wodonga. Although captain-coach Shanahan hit the game winner against the Bandits, it was Daniels' overall play that helped secure the Miners fifth win of the year.

In a game that pitted two teams who haven’t had a dominant centre all season, Daniels set about playing bigger than his 203cm frame and worked hard at both ends of the court. In a consistent display Daniels produced 23 points at 50%, pulled in 11 rebounds, dished out four assists and picked off a steal in 39 minutes of action.

SEABL MEN (EAST): BRAD WILLIAMSON – Southern Districts

Another first time winner of the POTW award, Brad Williamson again showed why he is being touted as oneof the next big things at the NBL level with a dazzling shooting display against the visiting Cobras.

With an impressive season average of 21ppg Williamson had notched up 20 points at the half to have his team ahead 62-43 at the main break. He continued on his merry way scoring a further 15 points in 15 minutes of action in the second half to finish the game as the highest scorer with 35 points.

To make it even more impressive, Brad shot 6/10 from three point range and 55% overall from the field. He added six rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist in a performance that was the standout of this round of SEABL fixtures.

Other notable performances were:
* Nick Payne who worked hard for the Albury/Wodonga Bandits, averaging 22 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and two steals.
* Nunawading Spectres rookie Jesse Caspersz in a coming out party against Albury/Wodonga,
recording career-high numbers in all categories. He played the entire 48 mins and produced 22 points @ 42%, 5 rebounds, eight assists a block and a steal.
* Bendigo Braves NBL player Mick Hill had an impressive 22 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals in an away win over league leaders Geelong.

SEABL WOMEN: DEANNA SMITH – Nunawading Spectres

Round 18 sees Deanna Smith claim her first SEABL player of the Week honour this season. Coming into the SEABL in Round 13 as an injury replacement for Katie Davis, Deanna has been in consistent form in her three previous outings for the Spectres but unleashed on an unsuspecting Lady Bandits outfit this weekend.

Smith sizzled her way to 42 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, two steals, one block and only one turnover on Sunday afternoon to underline her talent and prove any doubters wrong that she deserves to be going to China with the Opals on July 9.

Deanna was simply irresistible in the first two quarters. In the first she scored 13 points on 4/6 shooting with a perfect 3/3 from three-point range. She backed that up in the second with another 13 points again going 4/6 from the field to finish the half with 26 points and seven rebounds.

She came out strong again in the third, scoring a further 14 points again shooting a blistering 4/5 from the field including 3/3 from three-point land. Although she cooled a little in the fourth, the damage was done and Deanna had helped her side to a much-needed victory in the race to see if the spooks can sneak into the playoffs at season’s end.

* Kilsyth import Abby Schrader, with 20 points @ 70% to go with seven rebounds in an away
win over the Lady Spartans.
* Lady Bandits guard Jessica Bibby suffered through a tough 0-2 weekend by averaging 22.5ppg, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
* Lady Miners forward Karen Ashby helped her side to a comfortable 30-point win over Albury/Wodonga with 21 pts @ 75%, 13 rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
