In what may very well be a preview to the grand final, ex-ranger Lester Strong and his teammates at Warrnambool travel to Dandenong this week in what is sure to be a game to remember. With Warrnambool not yet losing an away game and Dandenong not yet losing at home, someone's run is about to come to a halting end.

The two last met in Round 2, when Dandenong had a nine-point victory over top of the ladder Warrnambool. The Seahawks are yet to have a win against the Rangers, and with Lester Strong, Timothy Gainey and Bobby Cunningham at the helm, this may very well be the week to change this. Brent Hobba, Ash Cannan and Vince Inglima will prove a tough match-up for the Seahawks boys, and audiences are sure to be treated to a hot contest with some solid moves from both teams, and what will sure be a few show-stopping dunks from the entertaining Strong.

The Seahawks need this win as they face a tough few weeks ahead, against the second, third and fourth-placed teams and three losses would mean they finish the season in third, a fall from grace that the bots just won't want a part in.

Melbourne (10-7) vs. Werribee (5-12)

The Tigers are on a four-game winning streak that sees them sitting comfortably in fourth on the Championship ladder, which should continue this week when they meet Werribee in front of a Werribee home crowd.

The two last met in Round 4, which saw Melbourne score a convincing 26-point win over the Devils, with Daryl Coreletto leading the scoring with 34 points. Coreletto has continued to dominate for the Tigers with an average of 23 points alongside team mate Matt O'Hea, and with the highest average scorer for the Devils in Dallas Wilson with 16, it seems that Melbourne should have this game in the bag, and look promising for what will be a tough finals competition for the boys.

Hume City (9-8) vs. Diamond Valley (6-12)

With two matches left for the season, Hume City should be able to secure two substantial wins and finish the season in fifth. This week shouldn't prove too tough for the Broncos, with the Eagles not having a win against the boys since 2005, and with Pierre Jallow at the helm averaging 25 points and 14 rebounds and Mike Spears averaging 22 points and eight rebounds, the Eagles are once again facing a tough opponent.

Diamond Valley's Michael Petridis has had a great year, with an average of 23 points and eight rebounds, and no matter what the outcome, the on-court competition between he and Spears should be evenly matched. With no chance at playing finals and some tough games ahead, it seems Diamond Valley will find it hard to chalk up another win for the season.

Latrobe City (1-17) vs. Waverley (8-9)

Waverley need to win two of their three remaining games to secure their spot in the six ahead of Ringwood, which shouldn't prove too tough up against Latrobe City this week who have had only one win this season. Waverley have not had a win since Round 12, and face a tough game against Hume City this week, so the Falcons are really going to need to step up and perform via the likes of James Anderson and Darren Smith.

Latrobe's Jeff Reid is coming off a POTW performance in the boys' narrow loss to Werribee last week, when he had 31 points, more than double his season average of 13, and teamed with Jameel Pugh who is averaging 24 points and Vashon Weaver with an average of 22, the margin may be tighter then first thought, with Waverley having to really play with finals in mind if they are to edge the Hawks out of the six.

Ringwood (7-11) vs. Eltham (5-12)

With sixth position slowly slipping away, Ringwood are going to need to secure themselves substantial wins for their two remaining games, and hope on a few losses from Waverley. What they are going to need to concentrate on is putting in a great effort that sees them better any game they have had so far, and this week is the week to get this happening.

Eltham have had a disappointing season that should see them finish in the bottom three, despite a solid year from Adam Moore and Luke Egan, who are averaging 21 points apiece, and wins against finals contenders Warrnambool and Melbourne. The Hawks are going to need to be tough, and with Luke McMillan and Joel Seach at the helm, these boys can really step up and perform and keep the Hawks in with a chance at finals.

This week is the week for Sandringham to make their move into second, and a solid game from the likes of Simon Conn, George Williams and Adam Quick such as last week will all but secure this chance.

Simon Conn has simply dominated in his debut year with Sandringham, leading the league in scoring with an average of 25, and looking promising at taking out MVP honours. Teamed with Quick, who is averaging 17 points, and Williams, who is averaging 18 points and 12 rebounds, Sandringham have proved tough competitors, and up against Werribee they should once again prove too good, looking likely that the boys may have another great chance at taking out premiership honours.

Both teams have secured their finals hopes, and should both finish in the top four, but this game will still prove tough, and will make for interesting viewing.

Warrnambool face the toughest run to finals, this week taking on second and fourth and next week taking on third, so if the boys are to maintain first they are going to need this win. The competition will be fierce between the two teams' leading scorers, but with Warrnambool not dropping an away game thus far, it seems that they may have the edge to win this nail-biter.

Championship Women

Game of the Week
Eltham (10-7) vs. Sandringham (11-6)

The fight between these two teams will be fierce, as the battle is on for the final spot in the four with two weeks until playoffs. Two wins for Eltham this week will allow them to finish the week in the four, but two wins from Sandringham next week would end Eltham's hopes at playing finals. This week Sandringham are going to be looking for the win to cement their chances, and the Sabres will be pulling out all the stops to get it.

With Tegan Fowler at the helm, averaging 19 points, and leading the league average scorers, she may be the force that will secure the Sabres the win. Eltham have Marita Payne, who is second in the league scoring again with 19 points, and the competition between these two will prove tough. When it comes down to it, it may be these two that make the difference in between who makes finals and who doesn't, and no matter what the outcome this game is sure to be tough and the competition hot.

After a disappointing four-point loss last week that ended Dandenong's hopes of playing finals, the girls will be re-grouping this week to secure what should be an easy win over bottom-placed Coburg. Coburg have managed only one win to Dandenong's eight, and even without Melissa Colcott, who has missed the last two weeks, the Rangers have the game to secure an easy win.

It was Tarryn Ring, Fazlyn Hartley and Claire Fitzgerald who scored double figures for the Rangers last week, and with Andrea Godden the only one to be averaging double figures for Coburg, Dandenong will get the win that will see them finish the year in sixth.

Hume City (15-3) vs. Geelong (4-13)
Saturday 8pm at the Arena

Hume City's undefeated season is a distant memory, but the girls should be able to get back to their form this week when they take on the Cats in Geelong. Geelong's disappointing season has seen them with only four wins, the last in Round 10 against eighth-placed Bulleen.

This week Sharin Milner will be back for her second week, and will be looking at bettering her points scoring from last week to go back to her 13 point-average.

The competition between her and the Cats' Candice Rogers will be tough, and if Peneluna is back in the side for Hume City, the girls should be back to their former glory, and stay one game clear in top position coming into the finals.

Bulleen (2-16) vs. Melbourne (13-4)

A win for Melbourne may help them to finish the weekend in second and the chance at playing a home court final, and this will be on the Tigers' minds when they take the court this week against Bulleen. The Boomers have had a disappointing season that has only seen them beat the bottom team, whilst Melbourne has had a great year that has seen them prove a tough force, and a finals contender, thanks largely to the likes of Michelle Brogan and Louella Tomlinson.

Brogan has been absent for the Tigers in recent weeks, but is still managing a 17-point average, with Tomlinson not far behind with 11. Thrown into the mix are Chelsea Burns and Sarah Nobbs who are also performing well, and it seems that Bulleen just don't have the man power for a match up, or even enough to be much of a challenge to the Tigers who are on their way to finals glory.

Eltham really need this win for a chance at playing finals, but with Waverley proving the toughest competitors in the competition of late, this is going to prove too much for the Wildcats. A win for Waverley may secure them top spot, whilst a loss could put them into third, and with finals only two weeks away, the Falcons are going to be looking at a win to secure them a home court final.

Waverley are continuing to produce the numbers at the net and with Julie De Groot coming off her third POTW award for this season, it is going to prove tough competition between her and teammate Carleigh Evans up against the likes of the Wildcats' Marita Payne and Suzi Raymant. This match-up will make for interesting viewing, but Waverley should have the strength to be the ones to put an end to Eltham's finals hopes.
