It’s the Dragonflyz.

The hottest cheer team in the NBL is set to rock Vodafone Arena like never before next season, with a brand new line-up of stars to entertain the crowd.

Auditions for the new-season squad will be held at 10am next Friday, July 20 at The Space, on the corner of Carlton and Chapel streets, Prahran.

“We’re looking for bright, intelligent, bubbly people with excellent technical dance ability who are also very good at hip-hop, because that’s a big element for the Dragonflyz this year, the incorporation of breakdancers and hip-hop into our team,” head Dragonfly Re-Arna Constantine said.

“It’s not only being an amazing dancer, performer and entertainer, it’s also having an excellent rapport with our fans and our corporate sector and having the flexibility to fit in with everyone and work within a team.”

For those selected to join the squad, the commitment to the Dragonflyz is huge – and so is the reward.

“We have one regular rehearsal for two hours each week and then we hold another rehearsal on game night at the venue,” Constantine said.

“Stepping onto Vodafone Arena is one of the most amazing feelings as a performer, because it’s such a big crowd and you feel so small on such a massive court and it’s a big shock.

“For people like myself who have been cheerleading for about five years you get used to it, but every time you walk out onto court it’s always the same nerves and it’s exciting and exhilarating.”

For Constantine – better known to fans as Re-Re – game night is all about the fans.

“The highlight of my season was reuniting with a past fan,” she said.

“When I was a cheerleader with the North Melbourne Giants I met a little boy called James, who we’d say hello to after the game every single week and he’d always have a story to tell us – now he’s a Dragons fan!

Backed by all-new male dancers, the Dragonflyz will return to centre stage from September 22, when the team takes on the West Sydney Razorbacks.

“The incorporation of permanent male members into our squad is a real twist for the Dragonflyz this season.

“In addition, we hope to have special entertainment such as Latin dancers, Bollywood dancers, snake dancers, flame-throwers and much more.”
