Shane Heal considers him the most exciting player in the national league and today Cortez Groves hit the court at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre to show just why he’s earned that tag.

The 29-year-old import arrived in Melbourne from his Missouri home at the weekend, and this morning joined teammates for his first hit-out at the club’s training base.

A former Hawk, Groves signed to the Crazy John’s South Dragons in March this year intent on securing a Championship with his new club.

And after two days on court with his new team, Groves is now more certain than ever he will fulfil his NBL dream.

“I’m definitely confident we can win the Championship,” Groves said after this morning's session.

“This team had a great run at the end of last season and I think with what I can add, we’re a real chance.

“We’ve got a lot of talent and it’s going to be an exciting year.”

Groves has wasted no time getting in on the action this week, hitting the court in black and white for the first time at Broadmeadows Basketball Stadium on Monday afternoon as part of the club’s ‘Back to the Burbs’ campaign.

Two hundred enthusiastic fans turned out to watch the team put through its paces yesterday and catch the first glimpse of star guard Groves in action.

The team’s two-hour training session was followed by the chance for all fans to get up close and personal with the stars of the new-season line-up and to score some great giveaways.

The Crazy John’s South Dragons Back to the ‘Burbs program continues on Monday, August 6, when the team travels to Waverley Basketball Stadium.
