The Gunners came out firing and led by nine at the first break and by 20 at half time. The Gunners were shooting at almost 60% while Frankston were only able to hit 35% of their shots and it looked like it was going to be all over bar the shouting. However Frankston and Marcus Timmons had other ideas. In the second half Frankston, led by Timmons, staged a comeback and clawed back 15 of their deficit. All through the second half the Gunners seemed to be losing it but with Todorovski and Petrie playing well, the Gunners seemed to be able to stay in front. All in all it was a fast-moving game which Frankston let slip in the first half.

Hobart started the game at a blistering pace, leading 35-17 after the first quarter. The successful outside shooting of Stewart and Inches brought the home town crowd to their feet. But the Cobras fought hard in the second half, increasing the defensive intensity to crawl back to 55-56 at the half. Cobras coach Grant Wallace received an even contribution from all his players, but Croft and Cameron were the main offensive threat for Kilsyth. Chargers came out the better team in the third period to increase the lead to 80-72, but league MVP candidate Anthony Stewart had five fouls with a quarter still to play. Croft and Cameron once again stepped up for the Cobras and they led Kilsyth to an 11-0 scoring spree to start the fourth quarter and led 81-80 with eight minutes to play. Scores changed constantly for the remainder of the game ad Anthony Stewart hit a three-pointer to put the Chargers up by one point with seconds remaining, but Kilsyth star Jon Croft replied with a three-pointer of his own to give the Cobras a 96-94 advantage. Hobart had one play still to go but was unable to make a successful basket and finished the unlucky losers in a sensational contest.

It was Knox who came out very hard to score the first 10 points of the game. Ballarat then slowly fought their way back into the game to trail 21 to 13 at the first break. The second quarter was a fairly even quarter and with defence being the key Ballarat caused some turnovers to go in to the main break four points down. In the third quarter Ballarat once again stepped up its defence and with Emma Randall in foul trouble Ballarat took advantage of this to go into the final quarter with a one-point lead. And in the last quarter Ballarat produced its best basketball of the game keeping Knox to just 10 points and going on to win 68 to 62. For Ballarat Chantal Allgood put in a great performance to hit a game-high 19 points and Karen Ashby, although only scoring five points, kept Hollie Grima to just 13 points in a great defensive effort. And for Knox Jo Myers put in a great performance to score 13 points along with 10 assists and seven rebounds.
