A cloud continues to hang over the Sandringham side, with Simon Conn still unconfirmed for this week's do or die clash against Dandenong that will determine the Big V Championship Men's grand final winners for 2007.

The two sides will be battling it out this weekend for Championship glory for the third year running, with Sandringham taking the series in 2005 in two games and the Rangers last year in two, something that they will no doubt be looking to match this year, with the winner spending the next two weeks battling it out in the ABA finals, being held in Melbourne.

Game one saw the Rangers travel to Sabre territory, where they celebrated an 18-point win that sees them enter the deciding weekend one game up, and Sandringham have a lot of ground to cover if they are to take the series to three.

Their biggest challenge will be stopping the likes of Ash Cannan and Brent Hobba, who shone in Dandenong's victory last week, with Cannan top scoring for the match with 26 points and Hobba scoring an incredible double-double of 21 points and 21 rebounds that held the Sabres at bay.

With Conn a late exit from the Sabres' squad last week due to his niggling calf injury, and Joe Ingles overseas with the Boomers squad, it was up to George Williams and Adam Quick to step up to the plate, and that they did with Quick back in form with 23 points after a quiet finals series thus far, and Williams a little below average with 16 points and 11 boards, in the end not enough to topple the Rangers.

The game brought their season head to head record to 3-1 in favour of the Rangers, and there is no doubt that without Conn, the Sabres are going to have a tough time breaking their game, especially with the Rangers' undefeated home court record this season.

This game once again has all the makings of a thriller and the question is, can the Sabres come back and take this series to three? If the Rangers have another performance like last week, this doesn't seem likely, and no doubt the Rangers fans will be packing out the stadium as these two fierce rivals compete for what may be the final time in 2007.
