Bogut, Victorian basketball’s most successful export, has said he will definitely play in the world championship tournament, despite being unable to compete in the Commonwealth Games due to NBA commitments.

Speaking with Milwaukee’s Press Association, Bogut said the Boomers will enter the competition with underdog status, and can’t wait to play for Australia again.

“We got a lot of guys, a lot of main players with the teams in Europe,” he said.

“With me in the NBA, there’s hope people follow the NBA a bit more, and I believe there will soon be other players (from Australia in the NBA). So I think we’ve got some good years coming up.”

Bogut believes the USA team will enter favorites, and thinks Argentina will be tough.

Averaging 9.1 point and 7.5 rebounds in his first season, Bogut says he still sees plenty of room for improvement.

“Playing defence, taking charges, getting rebounds – I can improve everywhere,” he said.

“It is just a challenge to work hard and practice hard.”
