The Wizards kept Cavaliers star LeBron James to 26 points, six down on his game one effort of 32, as Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler lifted the Wizards over the line.

Arenas netted 30 points and made a huge pair of plays in the dying minutes.

His three-point play with 1:34 remaining gave the Wizards an 85-77 lead before sealing the win by dispossessing Anderson Varejao with 10 seconds remaining.

Jamison started slowly, but bounced back with a vengeance, netting a pair of three pointers as he scored 11 of his 21 points in the final quarter.

Butler had a terrific two-way game, scoring 21 points while forcing James to shoot just seven of 25 from the field.

"We stayed disciplined in our offensive possessions," Washington coach Eddie Jordan told Agence France-Presse.

"Guys were a little bit jagged out there the first game, a little bit self-absorbed. Tonight we just pulled for each other."

In the other Eastern Conference game, 33 points from Vince Carter propelled New Jersey past Indiana 90-75 as the Nets to level the series.

Carter led a balanced attack as the Nets overwhelmed Indiana to even their series at one game each.

He received good support from Richard Jefferson with 21 points, while Nenad Krstic added 20 points and 10 rebounds, and Jason Kidd contributed 11 rebounds and 13 assists for the Nets.

Meanwhile, the Sacramento Kings could not overcome the absence of Ron Artest as they went down 118-129 in extra time to San Antonio.

The win has given the Spurs a 2-0 lead in their Western Conference first-round series despite Artest's replacement Kevin martin collecting a career-high 26 points and eight rebounds.

"It's the NBA. People step up, so any different player can step up in any different game," Martin said.

Manu Ginobili lifted the Spurs, scoring eight of his 32 points in overtime, while Barry had a playoff career-high 22 points, including four three-pointers.
