Kobe Bryant has put the Los Angeles Lakers one game away from the second round of the NBA playoffs with two shots on the buzzer to give the Lakers a 99-98 overtime victory against the Phoenix Suns.

Bryant first landed a basket with under a second remaining in regulation time to level the game at 90-90 and send it into overtime.

Almost five minutes later he stepped up against to land another jumper at the buzzer and give the Lakers a 3-1 lead in their playoff series.

"It was the most fun shot I've ever hit," Bryant told AFP.

"Just because it's us as a unit enjoying this moment together with the entire city of LA."

Bryant, who sat out much of the first half, finished the night with 24 points, but despite his match-winning efforts, he noted that Lamar Odom carried the team in the fourth period.

Odom scored three, three-point plays in the fourth period to keep the Lakers within striking distance. He finished the night with 25 points.

"Lamar basically put us on his back and carried us in the game and I just hit a 15-footer," said Bryant.

"I've been in a lot of play-off battles but never had one quite like this. We had our backs against the wall and we were seemingly out of it."

Phoenix seemed to well in control late in the fourth quarter when forward Tim Thomas hit a three-point basket to put the Suns 89-85 up with 41 seconds on the clock.

But Smush Parker brought the Lakers to within two with a three-pointer with 7.9 seconds left in the term.

He then stole the ball from Steve Nash and passed to Bryant who forced the overtime.

Meanwhile, Chicago has levelled its series at 2-2 with Miami after winning 93-87 in game four, while Washington is also tied 2-2 with Cleveland after winning 106-96.

Sacramento also levelled its series with San Antonio at 2-2 after recording a commanding 102-84 win.
