Following an extensive review of the available options, the St Laurence Geelong Supercats have signed a second import player, Shawn Myers, for the 2006 SEABL season.

Myers is a 198cm forward with an impressive career resume. Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, he progressed through the U.S. college system onto European professional leagues, spending the last 6 years playing in the British Basketball League (BBL).

Myers has been selected in the BBL All Star team three times and is a former Lithuanian and Icelandic All Star representative. Myers will arrive in Geelong on Tuesday morning and is expected to play for the Supercats this weekend subject to FIBA requirements.

He already has a strong connection to The Supercats having played alongside Supercats import, Jamal Brown, for the Chester Jets in the 2005-2006 BBL season. He produced the impressive averages of 19 points and 11 rebounds per game last season. He was the team's co-captain and in the BBL's top ten in points, rebounds and blocked shots.

Myers is a seasoned professional who is excited by the prospect of joining a successful Supercats team. "I am looking forward to coming out and playing for The Geelong Supercats. I notice the team has had a great start to the season and I believe I can contribute to the team's future success. I hope I can play exciting basketball and bring some entertainment to the fans" Myers said.

Head coach, Mark Leader, is eagerly awaiting Myer's arrival to add depth to a talented roster. "I think Shawn will fit in nicely to the team. He has a lot of international experience and great athleticism, which should be exciting to watch. Our local players have performed very well this year and I'm sure they will continue to do the job. Shawn will add another dimension which will hopefully make us more difficult to match up." Leader said

The Supercats currently sit on top of the SEABL East conference ladder with a seven and one win loss record after beating NW Tasmania on Saturday night 110 - 98. They have a tough double this weekend with a home game against the Kilsyth Cobras at the Arena on Friday 5th May at 7:30pm and an away game against Frankston Blues on Saturday night.
