The 192cm 18 year old, who last year was named as the Championship Women's Youth Player of the Year, has progressively found form as the 2006 season has progressed.

This weekend, Penaluna had 24 points, seven rebounds, four blocked shots and three steals as Hume City beat an improved Bulleen by nine points, taking the Broncos record to 3-3 and a place just outside the top four.

Penaluna leads the league in blockes shots after five games, averaging a perfect three per game. She is eighth in the Big V Championship for scoring, at 12.6 ppg.

Others in contention for the weekly award were:

* Demelza Waixel, who again posted great numbers for a winning Dandenong side - 14pts, eight rebounds and two blocks against the Cats following 15 points and eight rebounds against Melbourne
* Elthams Suzi Rayment, who had 11 points and 11 rebounds to go with two block and two steals in just 22 minutes against Coburg
* Sam Richards, who had 14 points, eight rebounds, five assists and six steals in the Sabres win over Geelong

MEANWHILE, for the third time in five weeks, a Warrnambool Seahawks player has been named as the Big V Championship Men's Player of the Week.

91 points in two games easily earned Curtis Small POTW honours, as Warrnambool demolished both Latrobe City and Eltham on their way to a top three position on the Big V ladder.

Small logged 52 points Saturday night against Latrobe City, including a league equalling best 12 three pointers. The only player to previously make 12 threes in a game was another Warrnambool player, Jai Watson.

Small made 51% of his field goal attempts for the evening, as well as ten rebounds. His 12 threes came off 22 shots.

Sunday he was at it again, making 39 as the Seahawks finished off Eltham. Small's numbers came on 14 of 21 shooting (67%) and included five of nine threes.

He currently sits second on the season leaders board for scoring, at 32.5 points per game. For a scoring guard, hi9s shooting percentage for the season is a phenomenal 51% and he is connecting from long range at 41.5%.

Others in consideration for this weeks award were:

* Small's team mate Tim Gainey, who had 16pts and 21 rebounds against Eltham and 30 points and 12 boards in Warrnambool's win over Latrobe City
* Bobby Cunningham, who is the third of the Big three for the far South-Western club, who had 25 assists for the weekend
* Brett Wheeler, who had his best game of the year with 24 points, 17 rebounds and three blocked shots against a tall Ringwood unit
* Mike Spears, who played 96 minutes this weekend for 50 points, 27 rebounds and four blocked shots
