The Phoenix Suns have forced a deciding game seven in their playoff series against the Los Angeles Lakers, while the New Jersey Nets and Miami Heat have won through to the second round of the post-season in the NBA on Thursday (US).

Tim Thomas was the hero for Phoenix playing away from home, as he knocked down a game-tying triple to force overtime before the Suns registered a 126-118 win.

Reigning MVP Steve Nash was also clutch for Phoenix, racking up 32 points and 13 rebounds, with the point guard ably assisted by double-doubles from Thomas and Shawn Marion.

The Lakers were led by scoring-machine Kobe Bryant, who notched 50 points for the home side on 20-of-35 shooting (5-of-8 from the arc).

The Suns dominated extra time after Thomas' key shot, netting seven of their first eight attempts as they tied the series 3-3.

In Indiana, Richard Jefferson scored 30 points as the Nets overcame a career-high 40 points by the Pacers' Anthony Johnson to win their first round match-up 4-2.

All-Stars Vince Carter (24 points) and Jason Kidd (eight points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists) were also impressive in the 96-90 victory.

Meanwhile, the Miami Heat rode Shaquille O'Neal's 30 points and 20 rebounds to record a 113-96 rout of the Chicago Bulls and advance to the Eastern Conference semi finals.
