Lester Strong has claimed his second POTW award for 2006 with another great weekend for the Dandenong Rangers.

Strong hit 54 points for the weekend, grabbed 34 rebounds, blocked 4 shots and collected seven steals as the Rangers eclipsed both Melbourne away and Latrobe City at home.

Maintaining his league leading scoring form, Strong hit his points for the weekend at 59%, remarkably close to his season long field goal percentage of 59.7%.

His 17 rebounds per game for the weekend was above his league leading average of 15.6 for the season.

The Rangers got away from Melbourne in a brilliant match-up Saturday and then dominated Latrobe City Sunday afternoon.

Other in contention for the weekly gong were:
* The amazing Bobby Cunningham, who had 37 points and 37 rebounds in two games, to go with 13 assists
* Strong's team mate Brent Hobba, who finished the weekend with 46 points and 32 rebounds
* Darren Smith, who was just a single assist off a TD with 34 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists against Warrnambool.

Big V Women Player of the Week

Dandenong's Demelza Waixel has been named the Big V Championship Women's Player of the Week for Week 8.

In a toss up between Waixel and team mate Alison Downie, Waixel gets the gong with some big efforts on the boards this weekend against two quality opponents.

While she made just 3 points against Sandringham Saturday, Waixel gathered 16 rebounds to almost singlehandedly deliver her team a rebounding advantage over the Sabres.

Sunday was even better. Lining up against Waverley, Waixel had 11 points and 17 boards - 12 of those offensive - along with four blocked shots and one steal.

Her weekend tally was impressive. 14 points, 33 rebounds and five blocked shots.

Other contenders for this weeks award:
* Alison Downie of Dandenong, who finished with 32 points and 20 rebounds for the weekend - including five from five from the arc Saturday night
* Sharin Milner, who had 15 pts Saturday in the loss to Eltham and then 21 points Saturday in the win over Geelong
* Kelli Hayward, who had 21 points and 19 rebounds to dominate the Cats
