The St Laurence Geelong Supercats have extended their lead in the SEABL East Conference to five wins over their nearest opposition after wins at home on Friday night against Knox and away on Sunday against reigning national champions Bendigo.

On Friday Geelong hosted Knox at the Arena and both teams found it hard to start in the first quarter. Knox led by 7 at quarter time but Geelong fought back in the second to lead at half time by the narrowest of margins 43 to 42.

Jamal Brown started to score well in the third and Geelong extended their lead to 10 at three quarter time but the visitors fought back in the last to hold a slender three point lead with 8 seconds remaining. Jamie Medved was fouled shooting a three and the crowd went wild as Medved landed each of the three free throws to take the game to overtime for the second game in succession at the Arena.

Geelong fought out the overtime period well and secured the victory 103 to 99.

On Sunday Geelong travelled to Bendigo for the return match against the reigning national champions.

Geelong started the game strongly and by the first break were 6 points up. Geelong extended their lead to as many as 16 during the second before Bendigo pegged them back to 12 at the half. The Supercats shot away to a 21 point break during the third before the home crowd helped the Braves get back to just 12 down with a quarter to play.

Geelong tired in the last but was able to courageously hung on to record a memorable four point victory 108 to 104.

Geelong now play host Canberra at the Arena next Saturday night at 7.30pm.

May 26: In overtime St. Laurence Geelong Supercats 103 (J. Brown 26, S. Myers 19, J. Medved 18) defeated Knox Raiders 99 (G. Leonard 22, C. Simpson 18, C. Koford 16) at the Arena.

May 28: St. Laurence Geelong Supercats 108 (J. Reardon 26, S. Myers 24, J. Medved 17, J. Brown 17) defeated Bendigo Braves 104 (W. Randall 30, D. Tenbroek 22, c. Novak 22) at the Schweppes Centre Bendigo.
