The Dallas Mavericks are heading to their first ever NBA finals series after overcoming a double-digit deficit to beat the Phoenix Suns 102-93 in Game Six.

The Mavs will now face the Miami Heat in the first championship in 35 years that has two first-timers battling for the trophy.

Dirk Nowitzki led the way for Dallas with 24 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks, while Jason Terry scored all 17 of his points in the second half as the Mavs stormed home.

Boris Diaw finished with 30 points and 11 rebounds for the Suns, and Nash chipped in with 19 points and nine assists, while Leandro Barbosa scored 14 points and Shawn Marion added 13 and 11 boards.

Phoenix started strong and held Dallas to a playoff-low 14 points in the opening quarter as they piled on 29, but the Mavs were determined not to be overrun.

Trailing by as many as 18 points midway through the second term, Dallas rallied and after heading to the long break down 12, returned in the third stanza to restrict the Suns to just 15 as the deficit was slashed to just four points.

Terry sparked a 6-0 run to open the final quarter as the Mavs took the lead and the momentum down the stretch.

Jerry Stackhouse stepped up and scored 13 of his 17 points in the final term as Dallas piled on 40 points and booked themselves a place in their maiden final series.

Dallas will now host Miami in Game One on Thursday.
