A big effort from Marcus Timmons earns the former NBL star his first POTW award for 2006, amongst some tough competition.

The Sabres star compiled a round high 42 points at 52%, helping his side to a 10 point win over Hume City, and maintaining their top of the table position.

Timmons added 22 rebounds, 20 of those defensive, and four assists for an outstanding nights work.

Shooting at 52% overall, Timmons also nailed five of seven three pointers, showing why he is ranked in the top ten all time three point shooters in Big V Competition.

It was an extraordinary round of Big V Basketball, with some huge performances from some teams and even better individual efforts.

Contesting with Timmons for the weekly gong were:

* Jason Eversteyn, who finished with 20 points (9 of 10 shooting), 11 rebounds, seven blocked shots and six assists against Warrnambool
* Joel Seach, who averaged 23 points and 20 rebounds in two games against Latrobe City and Diamond Valley
* Mike Spears, against Sandringham, with 33 points, 17 rebounds, five assists, four blocks and four steals
* Luke Egan, who had 41 points, 13 rebounds and five assists for Werribee against Melbourne

Championship Women POTW: Mel Colcott

Dandenong's Melissa Colcott has picked up her first player of the week award for 2006.

Playing just a single game for the weekend, Colcott continued her excellent form of the last six weeks, logging her second best score of 2006.

She had 26 points against Hume City to lead all scorers for the round, and backed it up with a round high 15 boards as well.

Shooting at 42% overall, Colcott made 10 of 24 from the field, and five of six from the free throw line for the evening.

Her last six games have netted four scores in excess of 10 points, in stark contrast to her start to 2006, which saw her top 10 just once in the first five games.

Colcott now sits fifth on the league's average scorers list, at 14 ppg.

She had plenty of opposition for the weekly award, including:

* Team mate Alison Downie, who also finished with a double against Hume with 14 pts and 12 rebounds
* Lauren Bennett, who sparked the Cats Saturday with 20 points and six boards
* Julie deGroot, who finished with 20 points including nine from nine from the charity stripe as Waverley upset Sandringham
* Tegan Fowler, who had 37 pts for the weekend with 18 against Sandringham and 19 against Bulleen
