South Dragons coach Mark Price has stepped-up the clubs international recruiting, trialling a number of ex-NBA and American college players at a local court in Atlanta over the past few weeks.

Price, charged with scouting the Dragons maiden import duo, has put all would-be Dragons through a rigorous training session at his local gym, with players from various states flying to Atlanta to workout with the four-time NBA All-Star.

“It seems every day a new person is bought to my attention,” said Price, who’ll attend a number of NBA summer camps in the coming months.

“The guys I’m working out are mostly 6’6 two-guards and three-guards, “ Price added.

“We’re looking for an athletic player who can slash through the lane and provide a scoring option.

“He also needs to be the kind of guy who can defensively lock down the oppositions scoring threats, players like Willie Farley and Cortez Groves.

“In the big-men department, we’re after someone who can work the low block, rebound and block shots.”

Dragons chairman Mark Cowan says the club would ideally have both imports signed by early August.

Cowan, who's Dragons have attracted former Boomers Captain Shane Heal from retirement, says imports will have a key role in the on and off-court success of the club.

“To have a person of Mark’s calibre and profile in charge of our import recruiting is fantastic for our club,” Cowan explained.

“It’s a real bonus that he's over there in the States and able to meet face-to-face with any prospects."

The Dragons have seven signed Australian players, and alongside the import signings will add local Victorian players to complete the roster.
