The McDonald’s Crocodiles have announced that NBA hopeful Brad Newley will again suit up for the team in 2006/07 after his agent Leon Rose advised the club that Newley had officially withdrawn from the 2006 NBA Draft.

Newley spent the past six weeks in the States training and working out with several NBA teams including the Phoenix Suns and the Utah Jazz before he attended the Orlando Pre-draft Camp last weekend.

According to Rose, there was a lot of interest in Newley from NBA teams, but no guarantees that he would be drafted for 2007.

Rose said that the time spent in the States was good preparation for Newley’s 2007 NBA campaign and had afforded him the opportunity to personally train with NBA teams and experience first hand the style of play and level of competition in the world’s premier basketball competition.

While disappointed about withdrawing from the draft, Newley was excited about returning to the Crocs for next season and working on his game in anticipation of fulfilling his NBA ambitions the following year.

McDonald’s Crocodiles CEO Ian Smythe said that Newley’s return was good news for the franchise and fans.

“This is great news for the Townsville franchise and sports fans in the twin cities. Brad is the hottest property in the NBL and to have him rejoin the team only serves to strengthen the existing roster,” said Smythe.

“This news now allows us to fill the final import position on the roster, with nine confirmed players.”

Newley will return to Australia on Tuesday, he will spend time with his family in Adelaide before preparing for the World Championships in September.
