The Westbus West Sydney Razorbacks have pulled off a major coup by signing 6’8” Power Forward Matthew Knight for the forthcoming National Basketball League season.

Knight who hails from Burnie (Tasmania) has just completed a stellar career at Loyola Marymount University in the USA, where he also played alongside fellow Razorback Damian Martin.

This past season Knight was named to the West Coast Conference (WCC) All First team. He also led the LMU Lions in scoring at 16.5 PPG and rebounding at 7.7 RPG.

Knight previously played for Razorback Head Coach Rob Beveridge on the Australian Under-20 team that won the World Championship in 2003. Knight also represented Australia at the Under-23 World Championships held in 2005.

“I am ecstatic to have Matt on board with the Razorbacks this season,” Razorbacks coach Rob Beveridge said.

“Matt is a tough, no nonsense type of player who will not be afraid to mix it up with the heavy weights of the NBL this year. I expect that Matt will be a major impact player in the NBL this year and for many more years to come.”

With the signing of another great young player in Knight for three years, to go along with the multi year signings of Damian Martin, Julian Khazzouh, Liam Rush and Graeme Dann, the future of the Razorbacks appears bright with such a talented young core group of players.

Knight was born on May 31, 1985 in Burnie, Tasmania, Australia. He is the son of Debbie and Scott Knight. His father played professional Australian Rules Football. Matt has one sister, Rachel and supports the Make A Wish Foundation in Australia.
