Scheduled for Saturday September 16, the highly anticipated game is the first of its kind for the SEABL women's competition since 1996, when an All-Star team participated in a WNBL pre-season tournament.

The match will be played in the heartland of Victorian basketball at Knox Converse Stadium, which continues to attract good crowds to women's games and has a seating capacity of more than 2000.

SEABL league manager, Mark Quinn, is delighted with the announcement and congratulated both the SEABL board and the Dandenong Rangers for coming together and further promoting women's basketball with a quality contest.

"The SEABL women's competition currently has 17 players who participated in the WNBL last season, so it is a very strong league and one that is getting bigger each year," said Quinn.

"The opportunity for the very best SEABL players to represent their league against one of the nation's best WNBL teams is an exciting development and one we will endeavour to build in the coming years."

Players selected in the All SEABL Team for season 2006 will gain automatic selection into the All-Star team, while the SEABL women's coach of the year will take control of the 10-member side to play the Rangers.

SEABL president Hugh McMenamin is anticipating a close game and believes the opportunity to represent the SEABL will bring out the very best in those selected.

"We, as a league, are always striving to develop new initiatives that will ultimately assist in growing the sport across all of our member clubs," said McMenamin.

"The Rangers will be using this match as a vital pre-season game and I have no doubt the SEABL All-Star women's team will provide them with a great contest."
