The South Dragons have added 205cm Dandenong Ranger Brent Hobba to their maiden roster, the West Australian-born forward agreeing to terms for the 2006/07 NBL season.

Hobba spent last NBL season with the Perth Wildcats, getting a jersey for a six home starts as a development player.

Strong form in Victoria's Big V competition earned him an invite to scrimmage with Melbourne's newest NBL club.

Last week Hobba knocked down 36 points for the Rangers, hauled in 12 rebounds and threw five assists in his clubs win over Warnambool. Over 14 Big V games Hobba averages 23 points and 14 rebounds for the second placed Rangers.

"He's a great pick-up," said Dragons big-man Matt Burston, who trained alongside Hobba last season with the Perth Wildcats.

"Brent has good range for his size and he's a blue collar worker who works hard on the glass."

Dragons assistant coach Scott Ninnis says Hobba is a handy addition to the Dragons frontline.

"Brent will have a great learning opportunity under the tutelage of our new signing Todd Fuller, who's played over 200 games in the NBA," added Ninnis.

"He'll also learn a lot from Matt Burston, and we can't wait to get started working with Brent."

Twenty-four year old Hobba had a couple of offers from competing NBL clubs, and says the opporunity to sign with the league's newest franchise was too good to refuse.

"I'm rapt to sign with the Dragons, they've got a great program and it's exciting to be part of it," said Hobba.

Hobba's Rangers will take on the Melbourne Tigers Big V team this Sunday at the Dandenong Basketball Stadium, 8:00pm.
