At Mount Barker, the squad split into two teams, Blue and White, and faced off in front of the public.

The younger White team, up against the Blue team that featured Brett Maher, Willie Farley, Nick Horvath and Lanard Copeland, managed a 99-95 win with a lot of help from Darren Ng.

Signed as a back-up guard in a deep 36ers roster, Ng made a strong case for court time at NBL level with a game-high 31 points at an astounding 75 per cent, featuring 12/16 field goals and 5/7 threes.

New signing Adrian Majstrovich put up 25 points and nine rebounds in support, while Brad Hill had 16 points and nine boards in front of his local crowd.

The Blues spread their efforts, Farley scoring 27 points, Maher 24, Horvath 21 and Copeland 18 points.

Coach Phil Smyth was positive about the scrimmage when talking with Boti Nagy from The Advertiser.

"Defensively we were much better," Smyth said of yesterday's trial before an appreciative Hills crowd. "Darren stood out offensively."

"It was really pleasing," Sixers coach Phil Smyth said. "It was a big improvement on where we were a week ago."

The 36ers will be at the pre-season Blitz in Coffs Harbour this week but Smyth said it was not a priority, the first Philips Championship game against the Slingers the target.

"We have to put some things in place before we play Singapore," he said.

"We have four games in 10 days so we've got to have things in place because we won't get a chance after the Singapore game."
