Townsville Crocodiles star Brad Newley has returned to his outstanding best just a week out from the 2007 Philips Championship Finals Series.

The 199cm swingman bagged a game high 25-points against the West Sydney Razorbacks on Saturday in just 32 minutes of court time shooting an impressive 69.2 per cent from the field.

But the 21-year-old star isn’t getting carried away by his impressive performance on Saturday night.

"It wasn't that satisfying, being that it was against the bottom team in the competition," Newley told the Townsville Bulletin’s Anthony Stewart.

"After the last couple of weeks it was good to have a bit of a breakout (game), but it's not that big a deal though."

While Newley chose to talk down his game against the Razorbacks not many people can deny that having their star guard firing heading into the playoffs will do nothing but help Townsville as they strive for their first NBL championship since entering the league in 1993.

Newley was well aware of his slip in form in recent weeks but believes he can continue to improve as the lead up to the 2007 finals.

"That just happens sometimes, it's hard to play that well so often . . . but I have had a pretty good year and I'm confident I can step up a little bit," he said.

"I'm confident in myself that I am able to pick it up and, as a team, get ready for the playoffs."

Townsville will play host to League leaders Brisbane on Saturday night but Newley said his team is far from intimidated despite the Bullets recent 15-game winning streak.

"The way Brisbane play, with their press-style, we have struggled against them this year, but this time we are on our home court and we'll be better prepared for it," he said.
