Opals coach Jan Stirling has named her 12-woman squad for next month's World Championships in Brazil, while a new naming rights sponsor has been announced for both the team and the Women's National Basketball League.

Opal Hollie Grima was at Parliament House in Canberra on Tuesday to help announce the new 12-month deal with Australian Defence Force Recruiting, and is one of the 12 players headed to South America for the September 12-23 championships.

"It's wonderful to have Defence Force Recruiting on board with the Opals and the WNBL," Grima said. "Australian women's basketball will benefit immeasurably from our new partnership and it's great that they could be here today to help with the unveiling of the team for the World Championships."

"This outstanding deal will create increased opportunities for women's basketball in Australia and we are looking forward to working with Australian Defence Force Recruiting throughout the period of this deal," Basketball Australia chief executive Scott Derwin said.

"Our female basketballers will provide role models for Defence Jobs and help spread the message about careers within the Australian Defence Force."

As well as Grima, the squad also includes Lauren Jackson, Tully Bevilaqua, Kristi Harrower, Emily McInerny, Erin Phillips, Emma Randall, Jennifer Screen, Belinda Snell, Laura Summerton, Penny Taylor and Jenny Whittle.

The Opals will head to Brazil later this month for warm-up matches against the Czech Republic and the United States before they open their World Championships campaign against the host nation on the opening day.

The Opals' matches against Lithuania, Senegal and Canada will be shown on Fox Sports in Australia, along with the semi-finals and the tournament decider.
