The Big V has today announced the list of players invited to train for selection for the Big V Women's All Stars, in preparation for games against the Dandenong Rangers WNBL side (September 9) and Bulleen Boomers.

League CEO Matthew Cowling released the list today, with the team commencing training next Wednesday night.

As with the All Stars Men, any player contractually obligated to WNBL programs was not considered for selection, this included Alison Downie(Dan), Demelza Waixel (Dan), Sharon Milner (Hume), Kylie Jordan (San), Caitlyn Ryan (San) and Sam Richards (San).

In addition a number of the leagues young stars will not be available due to the imminent commencement of US College careers. The following would have been invited to join the All Stars but for those commitments: Tegan Cunningham (Bull), Christina Fox (Dan), Prue Kenny (Gee) and Laura Thomas (Melb)

Head Coach Jeremi Moule said he was pleased with the nominated group. "We have some great talent here, while it would have been great to test some of these younger players at training, they would have been hard pressed to win places against some of the others who will be here."

Those players not in finals will commence training this Wednesday night, and with two teams finishing their season this weekend it should make for an ultra competitive training environment.

The league listed four players not currently playing in Championship in 2006. They are Nicole Hunt and Katie Davis from Warrnambool, the former having been seleted this year to play with the Australian Gems.

In addition, the D1 leading rebounder for the last two seasons Stephanie Cortese has been invited to train along with Indian National team member, Geethu Anna Jose, who played the last six games of 2006 with Ringwood in Division Two competition, dominating that competition in that period.

Cowling said these later four would add plenty of interest. "The addition of these four players will spark trainings - with the exception of Davis the championship players will have seen very little of these girls"

Both Davis and Hunt have ongoing finals commitments with the Warrnambool Mermaids.
