Australia trailed 35-28 at half-time, but a 25-14 third term in Lithuania's favour put the result beyond doubt.

The Boomers were led by NBA prospect Brad Newley who netted 15 points, while Milwaukee Bucks Centre Andrew Bogut managed 12 points.

For Lithuania, New Orleans Hornets guard Arvydas Macijauskas managed a game-high 20 points while big man Robertas Javtokas scored 16 points and pulled in 12 rebounds.

The loss makes Australia's chance of progressing to the knockout stage of the tournament extremely difficult. The Boomers must now rely on other results to go their way and at the same time have a decisive victory over Qatar in their last pool game.

If they do manage to qualify, Australia will likely face the might of the United States in the next round.
