The Melbourne Tigers are close to signing NBA player Sean Lampley to complete their 2007/08 roster.

Having played three years in the NBA, as well as playing in the European circuit and for the University of California, Lampley would add extra experience to the Tigers line-up this season.

Head Coach Al Westover said he is excited about the prospect of Lampley joining the Tigers, as he would be one of the highest credentialed players to play in the NBL this season.

“We think he could impact the team greatly and give us that extra edge we need to go one step further this year," said Westover.

“At this stage he is due to arrive early August to train with the boys. He’s what we’re looking for so if it all goes according to plan he’ll be signed and begin training straight away,” he said.

The 27-year-old forward is known for his athleticism and strength, and would join the frontline with David Barlow, Stephen Hoare, David Stiff and Chris Anstey.

“He would also be part of the Tigers China tour in August, including match-ups against China A and B,” Westover said.

Seamus McPeake, Melbourne Tigers Director said Lampley could boost his team's chances of regaining the championship crown.

“It would be great to have such a quality player on board, with his extra speed and power we would be in a great position to take the title back this year.”

Westover said that Tigers fans had a treat in store if the club managed to snare Lampley's signature.

“Fans would definitely get to see some amazing highlights from Lampley this season if he is signed successfully,” Westover added.
