Public submissions sought for review
20/07/2007
On 9th May 2007, the Australian Sport Commission (ASC), Basketball Australia (BA) and the National Basketball League (NBL) announced a major structural review of Basketball in Australia. The review will recommend a structure and governance framework for the delivery of the sport from a national level.
The Steering Committee for the Review - Mark Peters, Eddy Groves and John Maddock - will make final recommendations to the Commonwealth Government and the sport on completion of the review. A team from Ernst & Young and the Australian Sports Commission will form the Review Working Group, undertaking the investigation and consultation process and making preliminary recommendations to the Steering Committee.
We invite written submissions from individuals with an interest in putting forward views that they believe should be brought to the attention of the Reviewers.
Submissions should be succinct and express your major concerns and any appropriate recommendations for consideration by the Reviewers. Views should be supported by relevant evidence or examples. Submissions should address the following key themes:
• Do you think the current structure, comprising a national body and member associations (being state / territory associations, WNBL and ABA) and the NBL as a separate entity, is effective in delivering and building basketball in Australia? Please provide reasons.
• What do you see as being the benefits of having BA and the NBL integrated under one governing body for the sport of basketball in Australia?
• What do you see as being the risks of having BA and the NBL integrated under one governing body for the sport of basketball in Australia?
• What do you see as the impediments to structural and governance change in the sport of basketball in Australia?
• What other suggestions do you have for the structure and governance of basketball in Australia?
Submissions will not be accepted unless a contact name, postal address and email address (if available) are provided. Closing date for receipt of submissions is Monday 13 August 2007.
