The Perth Wildcats have strengthened their 2007/08 playing roster with the signing of power forward Michael Homik.

Homik was part of the New Zealand Tall Blacks team that won silver at the Commonwealth Games in 2006. Nicknamed the 'The Beast', due to his 203cm (6'8'), 110kg frame and powerful aggressive style of play, Homik is a natural forward that can score off the low block or spot up with a mid range jumper.

Mike Homik attended Albertson College Idaho in the US where he was the second in all-time blocks at the university and seventh in field goal percentage averaging .558.

After returning to New Zealand he played for the Breakers in the NBL in the
2003/04 season. Homik was also part of the championship team in 2004 and
2005 with Auckland in the New Zealand National Basketball League.

"I'm a power player, but I like to play with some finesse and range, and really fill the roles and spots the Wildcats need me to fill," said Homik. "I'm a very smart player and strong defender, I can guard centres to small forwards and hold my own in the post. We have a great team and system and I'm finding my spot within the team."

Head Coach Scott Fisher was excited about the signing.

"Mike is somebody who is going to bring a true physical presence to the court," he said. "He's an excellent post defender and will be setting the best screens in the league. As a replacement for Brown, what he lacks in height he makes up in heart."

In addition to his successful basketball career, Homik has dabbled in acting with minor roles in movies like 'Narnia'.
