Victoria’s newest NBL club the South Dragons will have their first taste of official NBL competition this weekend in Coffs Harbour, in the annual NBL Blitz tournament.

The Dragons have won their past three pre-season hit-outs, most recently defeating the Wollongong Hawks on Saturday 118-109. Skipper Shane Heal had 18 points in the final quarter to close out the game.

“We’re going to Coffs Harbour with the mindset to win the whole thing,” said assistant coach Scott Ninnis.

Ninnis says the opportunity to see how the Dragons will match up against other NBL clubs will give the team a great perspective on how to round out their pre-season preparation.

“I’ve been impressed with our form so far, we’ve been able to beat some quality opposition with limited prepartion.

“With guys like Shane and Kavossy who’ve been out of the game for a little while, every chance we get to take to the court is great.”

Captain Shane Heal is looking forward to his first official outing in NBL competition.

"The Blitz is great because you get to see how the other teams are traveling and how we're placed within the league" Heal explained.

"It's also our first official hit-out as South Dragons, which makes for an exciting tournament."
