The Perth Wildcats have recorded another healthy win against the Athletes in Action in Kalamunda on Friday night, 124-103.

The home side was deadly from the perimeter with 18 three-point baskets at 51% with Peter Crawford continuing his good pre-season form with a game high 28-points.

On Thursday night, The South Dragons opened their pre-season campaign with an 86-68 win against the Gold Coast Blaze at Knox while the Perth Wildcats proved too powerful for the Athletes in Action touring team at Lakeside in Perth in their first meeting, 134-96.

At Knox in Melbourne's East, both teams went into the match with depleted rosters. South were without imports Cortez Groves and Nick Horvath while the Blaze had to make do missing Pero Cameron, Casey Frank, James Harvey and Daniel Joyce.

The Blaze looked impressive early and held a handy eight-point break at the first change but the difference proved to be veteran Shane Heal, who connected on six-from-ten three-point attempts on his way to a game-high 29 points for the Dragons.

The remaining players from either side could not keep up with the strike rate of the 'Hammer' with a combined 10-from-49 from long range and the poor shooting was highlighted on the stats sheet with both teams picking up at least 20 offensive boards each.

At Lakeside in Perth, new Wildcats import Rashad Phillips displayed why he is so highly regarded with 14 assists to go with a perfect six-from-six shooting display to help his team record a 38-point win over the touring Athletes in Action team.

Alex Loughton made his much anticipated debut in Wildcats colours while ex-Slinger Aaron Trahair also got some valuable court time in Perth's big win.
