The Skytrans Cairns Taipans have announced the signing of Victorian four-man Dean Brebner to the second development position, finalising the clubs roster for the 2007/08 season.

The Taipans other development player is current Cairns Marlins swing man Dwayne Vale who has had an outstanding year with the ABA team.

Brebner has completed his college basketball at Augusta State, the same College Gary Boodnikoff attended prior to coming back to the NBL.

Brebner currently starts for the Geelong Supercats, who play a semi-final against the Cairns Marlins for the right to play for the ABA Australian Title this Saturday in Melbourne.

"Dean is an extremely hard working player. His defence when he came to Cairns and trialed was outstanding and he has a great attitude to improving and taking his game to the next level," Coach Alan Black said. "He will have a terrific opportunity to learn from the best in Cairns as he will be playing against either Martin Cattalini or Larry Abney day in and day out."

Brebner will arrive in Cairns at the conclusion of the ABA finals in time for the Queensland Cup basketball pre-season tournament.

Tickets for the pre-season tournament in Cairns, which commences next Wednesday 29th August, have been very popular, with the Aumuller Street venue steadily filling for all three days of the tournament.
