The Opals have beaten tournament host Brazil 82-73 in the FIBA World Championship in Brazil to remain undefeated and sit on top of its second-round group.

Australia trailed 17-21 at quarter-time, before piling on 30 points in the second quarter to take a 47-39 half-time lead.

The Opals held off a strong Brazilian fightback in the second half to run out convincing winners with Penny Taylor again leading the way with 27 points, while Lauren Jackson starred with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

Kirsti Harrower contributed 11 points while Laura Summerton came off the bench to bag 10 points as the Opals kept their 100 percent record in tact and all but confirmed a quarter-final berth.

Australia now takes on Argentina in its final match before the quarter-finals where a win will see it top Group E and face the fourth-placed team from Group F.

In other results from Australia's group, Spain proved too strong for Canada, winning 85-57, and Lithuania downed Argentina 62-47.

The USA dominated its match against France 76-41 to lead Group F, China stayed in the hunt for a quarter-finals berth with a thrilling 73-70 win over Cuba, and the Czech Republic downed Russia 85-83 in tense replay of last year's EuroBasket Women's final.

In the consolation matches featuring teams already knocked out of the tournament, Korea defeated Chinese Taipei 73-52, while Senegal downed Nigeria in an all-African affair 66-64.

Russia, China, and Cuba are currently fighting out for the fourth and final place in Group F with Cuba up against Russia and China to take on France in the final round before the quarters.

In other matches, Lithuania plays Spain, Canada takes on Brazil and the Czech Republic faces the USA.
