Despite the recent agony of having his New Zealand Tall Blacks team going down to an Australian side that included Gold Coast head coach Brendan Joyce on the bench, star reruit Pero Cameron says he is looking forward to playing under the Boomers assistant at the Blaze.

"Brendan has always been an opposition coach, obviously with Wollongong and the Boomers," Cameron told Luke Turgeon of the Gold Coast Bulletin newspaper. "But I have a respect for him and what he brings to the Boomers and what they have achieved, especially against us."

"Brendan is a quality guy and a quality coach and is doing everything he can to get this team firing and I will be too."

The Blaze made their Gold Coast debut on Sunday, falling 118-113 to the West Sydney Razorbacks in a trial match.

Still to record their maiden victory after three trials, the Blaze will head into the Queensland Cup pre-season tournament on Wednesday looking to break their duck before the NBL tips off on September 19.

The Blaze take on the Taipans in Cairns on Wednesday, then Townsville Thursday before their local derby showdown with the Bullets in Brisbane on Saturday.
