The Singapore Slingers have won their third game in a row against the RP Harbour Centre National Team, 93-72 placing them at the top of the standings for the seventh annual Brunei Cup.

The matchup between the RP Team and the Slingers proved to be more than just a well fought battle as RP showed they were not going to back down from the onset. In a physical and spiteful encounter, players Allan Salangsang from RP and Blagoj Janev from the Slingers were ejected only five minutes into the game. The play roughened up as the Slingers were at the receiving end of some questionable play.

Following the ejections for misconduct the Slingers were able to keep their poise and gain an eight-point lead by the first break.

The Slingers extended the margin to 15 by the half. New Zealand NBL player and Slingers trial guard, Hayden Allen proved that he is back to form following a recent virus that had him sidelined. Hayden shot 6-from-11 from the field, grabbing himself 19 points in his debut for the Lion City.

Mounting a valiant comeback, the RP Team was able to cut the deficit by five in the third and took the court for the last period down, 72-62. Slingers rookie Shane McDonald proved his worth and continued his quest for a starting spot with the new-look Slingers, dropping 17 points of his own along with four assists.

With ‘big man’ Blagoj out for the game, Chris Cameron stepped up with a double-double grabbing 11 point and 12 rebounds in 30 minutes. Once again Slingers new import Rod Grizzard showed his all-round talent dropping 14 points while adding five boards, three assists two steals and two blocks in 39 minutes.

The Slingers managed to muscle it out and never gave a glimpse of ever relinquishing their grip on the game. Singapore went on to record the win, 93-72, finishing with a 3-1 record.

The Slingers now take on the LG Sakers on Friday September 31st at 7pm in their final game before the Semi Finals.
