It was a celebration of the Gold Coast's newest national league team, or should that be teams?

About 200 guests, including Mayor Ron Clarke, got together on Monday night for the Gold Coast Blaze season launch at Conrad Jupiters.

Blaze general manager Dave Claxton, the driving force behind the Gold Coast's bid to be reinstated into the National Basketball League, said the launch was a culmination of a mammoth collective effort.

"A lot of people have been part of this and helped us," he said. "We have our team on the floor but there's a team off the floor as well."

"It's been really exciting watching it all come together."

The buzz started earlier Monday when the Blaze hit the training arena with their crisply ironed shirts and extra-long trousers hanging courtside.

After training, the players raced to the showers and headed straight to the launch -- such is the importance of each and every minute.

"We (came) straight from training because we've got work to do," said Blaze coach Brendan Joyce. "I wouldn't have it any other way."

"We are serious about being contenders and that's going to take work."

American import Juaquin Hawkins, sharpshooter James Harvey and young gun Tyson Demos were among the players introduced, along with Joyce and his assistant Mark Watkins, to the sponsors and guests.

Two weeks from the club's debut against the Brisbane Bullets, Joyce said he could not wait for tip-off.

"The first word I can think of is exciting," he said.

"It's an exciting time for us and it's an exciting time for the Gold Coast."

A decision has to be made on team captain but Joyce confirmed the club would announce a leadership group, most likely including four players.

The Blaze head to Townsville on Wednesday and will meet the Crocodiles on Thursday and again on Saturday.
