Australian NBA star Andrew Bogut might have been forced from the court with a leg injury, but he is working overtime to get back in as soon as four weeks.

Doctors first believed Bogut's torn ligament in his lower left leg could take up to eight weeks to heal, but the 21-year-old Melbourne star hopes intensive physiotherapy will help him get back for the Milwaukee Bucks, possibly on November 11 against Utah.

While the 213-centimetre centre is frustrated waiting on the sidelines during the NBA pre-season, he is philosophical, knowing soft-tissue tears can be temperamental.

It's not the best start to the NBA season, but Bogut says there is plenty of court time to look forward to after a stellar first year, when he was voted the third-top NBA rookie.

The Bucks' first game of the new season will be on November 1.

In Melbourne, South Dragons (0-2) will play their first home game in the National Basketball League against Wollongong Hawks tomorrow. The match, at Vodafone Arena, clashes with Melbourne Tigers versus Singapore Slingers at the State Netball Centre, when the Tigers (2-1) will hang their championship banner.

In last night's NBL game, Perth Wildcats 105 beat the New Zealand Breakers 88 at Trusts Stadium in Waitakere.

Melbourne's Women's National Basketball League teams play their first home games at the weekend — Dandenong Rangers against Adelaide Lightning tonight, Bulleen Boomers against the Lightning on Sunday.
