South Dragons Chairman Mark Cowan said, “We’ve commenced discussions with Shane, and are hopeful we can come to a resolution and retain him as head coach for the next couple of years. He’s the best person for the job and we like the fact that we have a playing coach. That part of the equation is certainly working. Its early days in our discussions, but the role is there for him if we can work through the issues.”

However the club's focus must be on tonight’s game at Vodafone, where they take on the Perth Wildcats.

Meanwhile, Assistant Coach Guy Molloy has spoken to Stephen Howell of The Age about the commitment required to coach at NBL level. “A lot goes on that people don’t see. The NBL schedule is tough with all the travel. They don’t see the tape sessions to 4am, and that’s the case with a lot of coaches and assistants”
