From where I sat we all hit the cruise control button and sadly it became stuck. I certainly take responsibility for my own lack of action during the Dragons recent disappointing loss to the Perth Wildcats at Vodafone arena in the sense that my ‘involvement’ wasn’t true throughout the course of the game. I know exactly what your thinking “This guy wasn’t playing and certainly can’t influence the team from the stands” and in short you are right; but close to five thousand fans backed up after the Boxing day showdown against cross town rivals the Melbourne Tigers and along with the team coasted towards what was an anticipated victory. After being up by nearly twenty points at one stage of the contest I for one switched off and simply expected the team to roll over the opposition. History will now forever show that such a victory never came and the better team executed down the stretch and found a rather large ‘W’ post game.

The Perth Wildcats were the leagues hot team coming in having won four games straight (make that 5) while the Dragons were also in-form with recent victories over talented opponents. There is a difference between hot and warm and in the end the Dragons may have overcooked their talent and allowed the Wildcats to serve up their best late in the game. Full credit to the Cats. As always there were some notable mentions for the Dragons with a cast of players performing well across the course of the game with Frank Drmic working both ends of the court before fouling out (he had two fouls in the first two minutes) and one K Franklin again unbelievable in his ability to create and make his own shot.

With only four home games left for the season it is hard to believe that the year has passed by so quickly. Three of the remaining four games are regional encounters that see the team traveling to Geelong twice and Dandenong once. I for one will journey far and wide to support the team. I hope you are able to find the time to do so to. We have come so far in our first year, on and off the court; I truly hope we can finish around .500 and in the playoffs in our first year.
