Brisbane Bullets forward Brad Williamson has re-signed with South Queensland powerhouse club The Southern Districts Spartans for their inaugural inclusion into the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) conference of the ABA.

Williamson is averaging 4.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game for the Brisbane Bullets in this NBL season and Spartans coach Bruce Palmer is confident the 25 year old will forward who stands 197cm will continue the rich winning tradition at Carina. "I am absolutely wrapped to have Brad re-sign with us for a second straight season. He is certainly continuing his meteoric rise as an explosive NBL player who can score and now play defense," Palmer said. "He has always had the tools to get it done at this level and I know our management and patrons are more then happy that he is returning. He is a big piece in the puzzle on this new road we are traveling."

Williamson's commitments with the Bullets, who are currently sitting first on the NBL ladder with a 20 - 5 record, are expected to take him right up to the start of the SEABL season. "We would hope to have Brad start playing games right away, but if he needs some time off, then we will give it to him. I can see the Bullets going to the big dance so we may be without Brad for the first few weeks," Palmer added.

The Spartans still have one restricted spot left on the roster, but Palmer is already in negotiations with prospective candidates. "I have been thinking about the make up of the team and we need and hopefully we'll have it all squared off very soon," he said.

"There's definitely a big hole left vacant with Ben's (Thompson) departure but we just have to do our best to find a suitable replacement."

The Spartans have won back-to-back championships in 2005/2006, and controversially applied to transfer out of the QABL and into SEABL. The move was accepted and this will be the first time a Queensland team will compete in the Southern based competition, regarded by many as the strongest conference in Australia second only to the NBL.
