Saturday night’s clash with the hapless West Sydney Razorbacks is tabbed as THE game for the Dragons to make a return to the winners’ list. Tickets are still available for the match-up at Dandenong Stadium, where the Dragons are out to roast the luckless pigs.

The South Dragons lead the season series 2-0 over West Sydney and will stop at nothing to stitch up the hat-trick. Sixth spot on the Philips Championship ladder remains within the Dragons’ reach, but it’s now or never to mount a late challenge for the first home final.

With just three wins on the board all season the Razorbacks are the sob story of the national league. If star guard James Harvey returns from injury to the Razorbacks’ line-up it will be his 200th NBL appearance, a feat that should inspire his team to lift. But motivation alone will not overcome the Dragons’ superior skills and South will be out to tear Harvey’s party to shreds.

Although the Dragons dropped both games in Round 17, promising signs are emerging from the South camp. Joe Ingles’ red-hot form continues, capped off with a team-high 25 points against the Taipans last Sunday night. Rosell Ellis, Jacob Holmes and Kavossy Franklin have also found a share of the spoils in recent weeks.

This weekend’s showdown is the perfect opportunity for the Dragons to return to form in time for the playoffs. South are yet to secure their berth but a win this week will go a long way to cementing their spot in the eight and will revive their hopes of claiming sixth position.

It’s seventh v the cellar dwellers this week, with plenty to get excited about for Dragons fans; after a full week at training South are ready to step up and re-assert their presence in the national league. The Dragons know they have allowed opportunities to slip in recent weeks, but come Saturday night the South Dragons will be primed to perform.
