The stage is set for one hot November night when play gets under way at Vodafone Arena between the Crazy John’s South Dragons and NBL newcomers the Gold Coast Blaze in just a few hours from now.

The Dragons enter the game on the back of a resounding win over the West Sydney Razorbacks on Wednesday night and will be out in force to extinguish the Blaze in similar style.

The clash sees big man Bakari Hendrix face up to Blaze forward Casey Frank for the first time since the pair were involved in a heated on-court stoush in the New Zealand NBL season earlier this year, with sparks again set to fly when the duo hits the floor.

A blistering match-up looms between reigning Rookie of the Year Joe Ingles and Blaze guard James Harvey, with the outcome of their duel set to go a long way to deciding the outcome of the game.

Also looking to fire up will be Dragons stars Cortez Groves and Jacob Holmes, who poured in a combined 47 points in Sydney on Wednesday night and will be keen to back that effort up with a second sizzling display.

When these teams met in the pre-season it was the Dragons who stormed to an 18-point win, as Shane Heal took control for the home side with 29 points on the board. For the Queenslanders it was big man Ben Melmeth doing the damage with 18 points to his name.

But it’s not just the Dragons who are set to star out on court tonight; Collingwood Football Club legends Brian Taylor, Paul Williams, Damian Monkhurst, Gavin Brown, Trent Hotton, Shane Kerrison and Alan Richardson will hit the floor at halftime to show off their skills.

At 3-7 for the season the Dragons are far from out of this race; 10 games into their debut year the team held an identical win-loss record and from there went on to contest the playoffs. If there’s one thing hoops fans have learned, it’s never to write off the Crazy John’s South Dragons.
