Crazy John’s South Dragons rookie Shannon Seebohm has awoken from a medically induced coma and remains in a critical, but stable, condition in hospital.

Seebohm awoke from a 24-hour induced coma over the course of the night and is now answering questions and responding to commands from hospital staff.

Crazy John’s South Dragons chairman Mark Cowan said while there was still a long way to go, the early signs were positive.

“We’re pleased and extremely relieved to hear Shannon has woken up and we sincerely hope his recovery now continues,” Cowan said.

The exact cause of Seebohm’s collapse is expected to be determined within the next 24 hours.

Seebohm was admitted to hospital on Wednesday afternoon after he collapsed into unconsciousness during an informal training session at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
