Having guided the Dragons to the playoffs in their debut Philips Championship season, Guy is now contracted through to the end of the 2008-‘09 season.

“I’m very pleased the Dragons wanted to continue with my coaching services beyond the initial short term agreement,” Molloy said.

He will use the next two years to cement the South Dragons’ status as one of Melbourne’s premier sports clubs.

Guy said his aim was “to develop the Dragons as the pre-eminent club in Melbourne and put a foundation in place that will enable the club to become deep playoff contenders each year.”

Guy joined the Dragons following the departure of Mark Price in October last year.

While the South Dragons’ coaching structure is unique in the league, it is a formula Guy believes will result in continued success.

“It's an unusual role that's for sure, but it has worked well because Shane (Heal) has given me strong license to add value according to the strengths I bring,” Molloy said.

“Shane and I have forged a strong working relationship and there's no doubt in my mind he will drive the club to a successful future.”

In further recognition of his achievements, Guy has also been named head coach of the Victorian under-18 team.

“I’m very honoured to coach the State under-18 team,” Molloy said.

“I will be involved in the identification, selection and preparation of the team to compete in the Australian under-18 Championships in Tasmania in July 2007.”

Guy said the role would prove invaluable to the South Dragons’ future, allowing the club to maintain a close association with young stars of the game.

“The Dragons have always spoken about a commitment to the best young Victorian talent, and their support of my role with the State team confirms that,” he said.
