New signing Tremmell Darden

The Crazy John’s South Dragons have signed dynamic American Tremmell Darden as their second import for the 2008-2009 season. Darden, 196 cm (6’5”) and 95 kgs, has signed a one year deal with the club.

The twenty-six year old came to the Dragons on a trial basis two weeks ago. After performing well in pre-season play, where he's averaging 18 points and 7 rebounds per game, the Dragons offered Darden a full-time spot on the roster.

“Tremmell’s a real good signing for us,” said head coach Brian Goorjian. “We’re not looking for him to come in and dominate and carry the team on his back. This is a young group and we have a good team thing going on, and we think he’s going to blend in real nicely.”

Darden, originally from Inglewood, California, starred at Niagara University in New York where he was First Team All Metro Atlantic Conference. He spent the last three years playing in Belgium, averaging double figures in scoring and helping Charleroi to the Belgian championship. Darden also spent a year playing in Turkey.

He is pumped up to be part of the Dragons “re-loading” effort this season.

“I’m excited to be here,” said Darden. “I’ve always wanted to come to Australia and now I’m getting to do it for an extended period of time. This is a great group of guys, we have a great coach and we’re all building towards the same thing, which is a championship.”

Darden replaces Ebi Ere on the roster. Ere, who originally said he wanted to pursue his dream of playing in the NBA, has ended up with the Melbourne Tigers.
