He may be in just his second season in the NBL and sit close to the end of the South Dragons bench, but Nathan Herbert is quickly making a name for himself in this league.

After managing just three points in the first three quarters of the Dragons 107-98 victory over the Melbourne Tigers on Saturday night, Herbert came to life in the final period and played a major role in getting his team an important win against their cross-town rival.

Herbert hit three shots from beyond the arc early in the final term as the Dragons went on a scoring spree that allowed them to overturn a 10-point deficit at three-quarter time and register the come-from-behind win.

It wasn't the first time that Herbert has come to the rescue for the Dragons, with the 24-year-old having already featured numerous times in many of his team's 15 wins this season.

Despite the fact that his red-hot shooting in the final term was a major reason behind the Dragons final quarter revival against the Tigers, Herbert was not fully satisfied with his performance.

"I shot the ball alright towards the end but defensively I got beaten too many times and Goorj (coach Brian Goorjian) let me know about that," Herbert said.

Although he may have received a few stern words from Goorjian for defensive lapses, Herbert praised the master coach for allowing him the freedom to play his natural game and take the big shots when on offer.

"Goorj has belief in everybody when they are open," Herbert said.

"He has given me a lot of confidence in myself down the stretch to take those shots. I am not a great ball handler, I am not great off the dribble so one thing I have worked hard on is shooting."

Goorjian didn't want to single out any individuals after the win, but he did take some time out to give some praise to Herbert.

"He has won a few games for us and tonight he was instrumental," Goorjian said.
