Although it is Southern Districts first SEABL game, they are aware of their opposition in this game, having lost to them in round 1 of the ABA National Finals last year in Newcastle. However the Spartans have a different line-up, and the Supercats have improved with the addition of multiple All SEABL team member Braith Cox. Spartans will be without NBL players Gibson and Williamson due to the Bullets in the NBL Finals Series, but have quality in ex SEABL players Andrew Latimer, Damien Anderson and Gerard Leonard.

Mt Gambier Pioneers vs "Oasis" Hobart Chargers
New Mt Gambier imports Ryan Blankson and Chris Lewis will be determined to impress in front of their new home town supporters and record a victory to start the 2007 season. Pioneers coach Jason Sedlock will be on the sidelines in street clothes as he awaits his Australian Citizenship, but will be determined to guide his team to their eighth consecutive victory over Hobart at the Icehouse, dating back to June 2000.

Canberra Gunners vs Club Kilsyth Cobras
Cobras coach Grant Wallace has recruited heavily in the off-season and his team should figure in finals if he can get them to gel as a team. Jon Croft and Chris Cameron are quality recruits, and then add former NBL rookie of the year David Smith to the team, and Wallace has numerous offensive threats. Canberra will again rely heavily on 2006 MVP Anthony Petrie to steer the Gunners to victory. A bigger offensive impact will be required from veterans Nick Johnson, Glen Baird and Ian Callaghan if Canberra is going to repeat their minor premiership again this year.

Knox Ford Raiders vs "Arrow Caravans" Southern District Spartans
Knox will be without new import John Bryant for their first home game this week, and will be very light in the big man department. Spartans coach Bruce Palmer will be keen to exploit this weakness, and has the arsenal to damage the Raiders Championship Banner unveiling party. Illiwa Baldwin is a promising talent, and after many seasons in the QABL is ready to showcase his talents to all basketball fans in Victoria. He will be assisted in the frontcourt by journeyman Andrew Latimer.

Albury/Wodonga "Bendigo Bank" Bandits vs "Searson Buck" NW Tasmania Thunder
Mark Radford has had great success in round one on the road in past years, winning at least one game each road trip the last three years. Bandits Wilson will be hoping otherwise as he has prepared his team superbly in the off-season and ready for an improvement on their disappointing sixth place finish last year. Bandits coach Jim Wilson will be keen to have new recruit Bradley Sheridan in uniform for their clash this week against NW Tasmania.

Bendigo "Telstra" Braves vs "Oasis" Hobart Chargers
Coach Wayne Larkins has had a successful pre-season despite only having limited members of his team available. New recruit Cameron Rigby has been producing solid numbers in the pre-season and will be a major threat for Bendigo this year. His combination in the front court with Chris Novak will give the Braves a quality low post offensive presence. Hobart Chargers coach Mark Chivers will be hoping prize off-season recruit Mark Nash is cleared to play for this weekend, as he will likely get the task of containing Rigby, and hopefully helping his hometown team score the upset round one victory.

Australian Institute of Sport vs Club Kilsyth Cobras
AIS head coach Marty Clarke has 19 players on scholarship this year, and therefore should have a number of fit and healthy players to choose from each week. 2006 All SEABL team member Patrick Mills destroyed his opposition last week at the National U/20s averaging 37.2ppg and earned the RE Staunton medal for the second consecutive season. He will be one player the Cobras will need to contain if they are to put a stop to their current three game losing streak against AIS.

Frankston "Cambur" Blues vs "Arrow Caravans" Southern District Spartans
After two tough games the previous two nights, fitness will play a major role for the Spartans in this contest. Frankston have added explosive guard Bart Strzebonski to the team and he is sure to exploit the Spartans fitness levels with his energetic pace up and down the floor. His combination with Andrew Harms in the Blues backcourt is surely going to keep the spectators happy at Frankston Stadium. Both are quality guards and can shoot the lights out if given the opportunity.

Nunawading Spectres vs "Searson Buck" NW Tasmania Thunder
Nunawading have kept the nucleus of last years team, and have added frontcourt depth in 213cm Jason Eversteyn and journeyman Senad Dizdarevic. The two players will give the Spectres a quality frontcourt rotation and should combine well with league veteran David Biwer and Paul Flynn. New Spectres coach Sedalle Threat will be keen to secure a victory in his first SEABL game, but will be tested against the Thunder. The Armstrong brothers are a quality combination, and very dangerous at the offensive end. Thunder coach is also expecting big things from new imports de Vries and Beard, and they will be keen for a solid performance in their first week of competition.
