Last year's NBA Finals MVP, Wade will forego season-ending surgery on his left shoulder and attempt to return to the court, according to a report on
the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's website.

"My decision is for the next two to three weeks to rehab, with the possibility of coming back, but with no guarantee," Wade said.

"(I want) to see if I have the confidence in my shoulder to play at a high level."

The NBA's fourth-leading scorer at 28.8 points, Wade suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of a loss to Houston on February 21 after colliding
awkwardly with Houston's Shane Battier.

Wade was taken to the locker room in a wheelchair before being sent to a hospital, where he was diagnosed with a dislocated left shoulder.

The 6ft 5in Wade had been enjoying his finest season in the NBA.

His scoring average is a career best, as are his 7.9 assists. He also is hauling in 4.8 rebounds.

Wade served as one of three captains for Team USA at last year's FIBA World Championship, helping the team capture a bronze medal.
