The Dragon Riders represent the loudest, proudest basketball fans in the league and, come September, the Riders will be courtside at each and every home game to cheer South on to victory.

The Riders are the brainchild of Dragons supporter Hamish Stacy, who this season became one of the club’s most recognised fans.

“Before we came to our first game I forced all my mates to write ‘Dragons’ on their chest,” Stacy said.

“At halftime the team was down and so we all took our shirts off and started a few chants and we were just going nuts. We didn’t know we were sitting right behind Mark Cowan and Ruffy Geminder!

“After we went shirtless we switched to a Hawaiian theme and we all wore Hawaiian shirts and big hats. Now we’re planning a few new themes for next season.”

All South Dragons members are invited to join the Riders in season 2007-‘08, when it’s hoped over one hundred passionate fans will unite.

“What we’re going to aim for is to have a meeting point, where all the Dragon Riders can meet before the game for a few drinks and then we’ll just hop on the tram to Vodafone Arena,” Stacy said.

“We want to attract the widest range of people possible because that way we will have diversity and everyone will be able to help out with their own chants.”

The Dragon Riders will soon send out a call to all supporters to help formulate the new-season plan of attack.

“What we want to do now in the off-season is to get as many people together as possible who are interested in the Dragon Riders and have a meeting with them to discuss the objectives and the purpose of the season and give them a bit of information to get the group up and running,” Stacy said.
