The Club Kilsyth Cobras went down to the Australian Institute of Sport 82-97 in Round 3 of the SEABL. AIS star and future Australian Boomer Patrick Mills led all scorers with 30 points as the Cobras gave their all but struggled to shut down the explosive point guard.

The Cobras played well in patches throughout the game and despite being down 15 points at 3 quarter time, still looked like they had a shot. Through some great hustle and determination from Adam Jackson, DJ Taylor and Dave Smith the Cobras drew level with 4 minutes to play. A series of fast break baskets for the AIS lead by Mills, and some poor decision making on the offensive end by the Cobras allowed the AIS to pull away with the game.

The Cobras who have now started the SEABL Season 1 – 3 were lead by Adam Jackson 17 points and David Smith 15 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. Chris Cameron and Jon Croft provided a solid support but the AIS bench was too strong. The Cobras will look to get back to their winning ways next week when they take on Southern Districts at the Snakepit.

In the earlier match of the night the Club Kilsyth Lady Cobras were defeated by the Frankston Blues. Newly signed Lady Cobras Import Abby Schrader made a solid contribution on debut top scoring with 14 points and pulling in 5 rebounds. She was well supported by Gemma Kerr 14 points and Sarah Parsons 6 points and 14 boards.

Frankston got big performances from their three stars Jordan 21 points, Mcmeeken-Ruscoe 17 points and Ofsoski 14 points and proved a handful for the youthful Cobras.

The Cobras gave their all throughout the match and were able to stay with Frankston most of the game behind Parsons 9 offensive rebounds but were unable to get it done down the stretch and will be looking forward to the added experience of Desiree Glaubitz and Lil Keane when they return from Europe. The Lady Cobras now dropped to 0-3 but will be looking to get their opening win next weekend against Southern Districts at the Snakepit.

The Cobras now take on the new team in the SEABL, the Southern Districts Spartans in a double header next Saturday night at the Snakepit, the women tip off at 6.15pm while the men take the floor at 8.15pm. Don’t miss any of the Club Kilsyth Cobras action in 2007.
